Carles Ferrer is an Industrial Engineer from the University of Barcelona and the Commercial Director of Pirobloc, a leading company in the heat transfer systems sector (link to his LinkedIn). He graduated as an industrial engineer from the University of Barcelona, obtaining a solid education that he has applied throughout his successful professional career.

Prior to joining Pirobloc, Carles Ferrer held key roles in two important companies, Pertegaz, SL and Wika Instruments, where he gained valuable experience that has contributed to his success at Pirobloc.

Since 2001, Carles Ferrer has held the position of Commercial Director at Pirobloc, playing a fundamental role in the company’s remarkable growth and development. Thermal oil characteristics

Thermal fluid oils are basically used to carry heat from a given location to another, after being preheated by any method able to do it, whether if it is a burner, or resistance, etc. They are also called heat transfer fluids, of thermal transfer or, HTF from English.

Classification of boilers by its technology

Choosing the right thermal fluid heater

There is a huge range of options for hot oil boilers. Each of these designs is thought with a special application, environment, or budget in mind. Here we describe the important factors to consider when comparing heating options.

Control of O₂ in thermal oil boilers

One of the techniques used for energy efficiency is the provision of digital modulating burners with continuous oxygen control. This enhancement results in an increase in performance of around 2% and a consequent reduction in fuel consumption. Furthermore, this system ensures a reduction in combustion product emissions and enhanced operational safety.

Mineral thermal oil

Thermal oils are fluids used to transfer heat from one place to another. The oil is heated using any burner or resistance method and passed through a heat transfer system for the use of this energy in places away from the heat source.

HTF heaters

Basically HTF heaters are industrial hot oil boilers where a heat transfer fluid, HTF, is circulating into a two concentric helical coils. The combustion of a fuel as natural gas, light oil, heavy fuel oil, or other, produces a flame that heats these coils by convection and radiation. Even there are also available on the market dual burners in order to choice the more convenient fuel. Through main pumps the HFT Heaters supply heat transfer fluid at a certain temperature to the different consumers.

The white oils and their uses in the industry (I)

The white oil is obtained starting from paraffinic fractions of mixed base or naphthenic one, depending on the definitive use. The process is carried out for vacuum-distillation, followed by several refinement processes, included a final purification with catalytic regeneration. Their applications are specially important in products that have direct and forced contact with the human being, for what should be no toxic, not to stain and nor to contaminate.

The thermal fluid transmitters of heat

In reference to the viscosity, it is considered from two points of view: separately and its variation in reference to the temperature.
The oils have advantages in comparison with other fluid, thanks to their better relation viscosity/temperature, that it is expressed in terms of the Index of Viscosity. It is calculated by an empirical formula from viscosities at 40º and at 100º C. A high value means a small change of viscosity in relation to the temperature.
